Enjoy beauty and a warm feeling when you decorate with quilted wall hangings
Fine stitching and quilting has been a skill with both a practical and aesthetic purpose. Many years ago before central heating and comfort, people sought ways to keep their homes warm. Quilted wall hangings and tapestries began to appear on walls to try and prevent drafts and chills from slicing through the house. As time went on the wall coverings began to be produced with a focus on the appearance of them and not just the practicality. This was really the beginning of large quilted wall hangings and spawned an art form that has survived for centuries leaving a trail of treasures.
The art of creating quilted wall hangings leaves a lot of room for creativity from the artist. The quilting can produce a three-dimensional picture especially when layered. You need not just stick a chubby Santa but you can actually quilt his tummy and make it protrude. A bird may be quilted in front of a garden scene giving the appearance that the bird is actually closer to you. This trick of the eye can create some very unusual needlework that will make you look twice at it. Some can be extremely detailed completely lifting a subject right out of the rest of the picture.
Quilted wall hangings can come in many different themes. They are very popular for children’s bedrooms and are often made to match a bedspread and curtains. The quilting often features cartoon characters in bright colors. They can be fun and colorful and add a very nice tone to a child’s room.
