Hanging tapestry should always be done with great care

Tapestries make a stunning statement in many homes adding color and warmth to a room. Hanging tapestry on the walls can change the whole tone of a room and create a beautiful focus point. Originally hanging tapestry was a matter of practicality as it served as insulation against the cold drafts and winters in ancient homes. As the practice took hold it became a goal and status symbol to adorn your walls with fine tapestry in rich colors and interesting scenes. Early hangings often depicted great hunts or historical events. They can be very detailed involve great numbers of people and activities all woven into a beautiful background.

The actual physical act of hanging tapestry is one that should be approach with some guidance. Tapestries are textile and thus require special considerations to preserve the integrity of the piece. The cloth must be hung with a rod to evenly distribute the weigh along the whole cloth. The location it is hung in should also be chosen with care as direct sunlight will fade the fibers and weaken the textile. There are many tapestries that have been lovingly cared for and have been preserved for centuries. Original works of art preserved in museums are frequently copied still today.

If you have the appropriate spot and are willing to properly maintain hanging tapestry, it can be a very nice addition to your home. Take the time to browse the options you will find on the Internet and imagine how a tapestry might look in your home.
